Samburu Special Five Safari

North of Mount Kenya the country changes: drier, redder and emptier, and the wildlife changes with it. Samburu holds five animals you will not find in the southern parks, and collecting the Special Five, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and beisa oryx, gives this safari a treasure-hunt feel that seasoned safari-goers love.

The Ewaso Nyiro river is the park’s spine, and everything comes to it: elephant herds digging for water, leopards in the riverine figs, and Samburu warriors bringing cattle down at dusk. Four days lets you explore both Samburu and the quieter Buffalo Springs bank.
