Five days across the border for Tanzania’s two heavyweights. The Serengeti’s plains hold the migration in the months the Mara does not, and its resident lion prides are the largest in Africa. Then the road climbs through highland forest to the rim of Ngorongoro, and the next morning you drop six hundred metres onto a crater floor that works like a natural amphitheatre of wildlife.
It pairs naturally with any of our Kenyan itineraries or stands alone as a first taste of the southern circuit.
Cross the border at Namanga and overnight in Arusha with Mount Meru above the town.
Through the Ngorongoro highlands and down onto the plains, game viewing all the way to camp.
A complete day in the Serengeti following the cats and, in season, the migration herds.
Morning drive out with stops at Olduvai Gorge, overnight on the Ngorongoro rim.
Dawn descent for a morning on the crater floor, then back through Arusha to Nairobi.
