Processing time is usually 3 to 7 business days, longer in peak season from June to September. Apply at least two weeks before your flight, and do not book a non-refundable ticket before you have approval.

The eTA is generally valid for 90 days from the date of issue. Rules on single versus multiple entry can differ by case, so check your specific approval notice. If your trip includes leaving Kenya and coming back, for example to visit Tanzania, confirm the entry terms on your approval before you travel, so you are not caught out at the border.

Gather these before you start the application.

Your Turkish passport, valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
Two blank pages in the passport.
A digital passport photo. White background, no glasses.
A return or onward flight ticket.
Proof of accommodation. A hotel booking or safari lodge confirmation.

You do not need a letter of invitation for a standard safari. A hotel or lodge reservation is enough.

Kenya and Tanzania on one trip: what the East Africa Tourist Visa actually covers

Many travelers want to see both Kenya and Tanzania on one safari, since the Serengeti and the Masai Mara are the same ecosystem, split by a border.

Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda offer the East Africa Tourist Visa, allowing multiple entries across those three countries over 90 days. The fee is around USD 100, applied for at the Kenyan eTA portal or a Kenyan, Ugandan, or Rwandan embassy.

Tanzania is not part of this visa. If your safari includes the Serengeti, Zanzibar, or any other stop in Tanzania, you need a separate Tanzania e-Visa. Do not assume one application covers both countries, or you risk being turned away at the Tanzanian border.

For a Kenya and Tanzania trip, plan on two applications. Get the Kenya eTA, or the East Africa Tourist Visa if also visiting Uganda or Rwanda. Then add a separate Tanzania e-Visa through Tanzania’s official immigration portal. Budget the extra fee and a few extra days.

Flights from Turkey to Kenya and transit considerations

Turkish Airlines flies direct from Istanbul to Nairobi daily. The flight takes about 6 hours and 30 minutes one way, the easiest route for Turkish travelers. There are also one-stop options via Doha, Dubai, or Addis Ababa.

From Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you connect to domestic flights to the Masai Mara airstrips, or to Kilimanjaro for the Tanzanian side.

Visa fees are only part of the budget. Park entrance fees are often a larger expense, and different authorities set them. Kenya Wildlife Service manages the national parks and raised non-resident fees as of October 2025.
